Qigong, meaning “energy work” was developed at least 5000 years ago in China, where it is known as ‘the method for preventing disease and prolonging life’. While it is not a martial art in itself, it is the foundation for martial arts such as Kung Fu, Tai Chi Chuan, and medicinal Tai Chi.
The exercises were not only designed to stimulate different energy pathways (called meridians) within your body that promote the proper function of your body’s systems, but to also increases mobility, vigour, and balances the emotions.
